Just a quick follow-up to my recommendations: I finished Lone Survivor over Memorial Day Weekend –the perfect time to read a book about our military heroes — and now I know why so many men cite this book as a favorite. It is heartwrenching (I literally wept as he recounted the battle that claimed his friends' lives — it was as vivid as watching a movie), and it is told with affection, pride and even humor. A great book for any adult and for older teens (the language, in keeping with reality, is pretty strong). Also, I can't believe that in recommending military-themed books, I didn't include Joker One by my good friend, Donovan Campbell. Or at least we'll be good friends if I ever meet him and he finds out what a big fan I am and how many copies of his book I've given away as gifts. It's that good. It has been out for a few years, but if you haven't read it yet, definitely put it on your list.
One last thing: if Kay Wyma ever shows up on your doorstep and asks to video you for her blog, then reassures you that it will be posted in a little tiny corner of the page where it will be hard to find, don't believe her.
